Do reflective people live better lives? For the Greeks, the answer to this question was clear: "The unexamined life is not worth living," said Socrates. To increase our chances of success in life, we must thoroughly consider our goals, weigh our options, and make well-informed decisions. But is this really how things work? In my presentation, I will offer some answers to this question from the rich tradition of the history of philosophy, and I invite you to join me in reflecting on them together.
