City as a Stage: How Theater and Dance Help Understand a Place and Work with the Past

.
Saturday, 2024, September 21st / Klara i Rosa - Šandora Petefia 15 / 19.30
.

We invite you to join us for a lecture on theater and performance in non-theatrical spaces. Together, we will watch and analyze excerpts from performances created in various countries and delve into such questions as:

- What drives directors and choreographers to stage performances on streets, in abandoned factories, courts, forests, or former ghettos?
- How do these works explore concepts like the politics of memory, heritage interpretation, and architectural values?
- In what ways can dance and performance engage with embodied memory or make community histories visible?
- Why are these genres becoming increasingly popular today?

The lecture will be led by Svetlana Kondratyeva, an independent researcher and heritage professional based in Novi Sad. She is an assistant lecturer at the European Humanities University (Vilnius, Lithuania), the author of the research study “Performative Practices as a Tool to Work with Heritage,” and a co-author and participant in several site-specific dance projects.

The lecture will be held in English.
