courtyard gallery: Emil Kadirić – Valkyrie
In the Courtyard Gallery (Korzo 1), an exhibition by Emil Kadirić titled "VALKYRIE" is on display.
.
How to materialize the essence of being in visual art is an age-old endeavor to which Emil Kadirić adds his voice. His figurative paintings, at first glance seemingly without much narration, still challenge the viewer to decode and understand the message being conveyed. As "there is no such thing as a good painting about nothing," Kadirić's two new works speak about something.
.
At first glance, the viewer sees two paintings of a seated female figure in a meditative posture, with symbols hovering above her hands. However, the bodily costumes—one glowing white, the other black—place these figures in a technologized future, while the golden masks covering the upper half of their faces evoke a ritualized past. The floating attributes above their hands symbolize elusive spatial and material relationships that shape the human environment, both immediate and transcendent. These figures, while two opposites, actually overlap, merge, and root themselves in the only time that exists: the here and now.
.
By portraying a moment of calm, Emil Kadirić, in his new paintings, points to humanity's essential need to face, peacefully, all incomplete knowledge, all questions about one's finality, and the fears born from unexplored paths. Kadirić’s figures, in which, according to him, "the moment and duration merge," free us from the pressure to surrender to one or the other.
.
Impeccably executed in craftsmanship, these paintings also testify to the phenomenon of artistic consistency, to an artist who remains faithful to his chosen medium and persistently pushes its boundaries in order to encompass everything he considers relevant for expression in painting.
