Emotional Literacy – How to Understand Yourself and Others
On Wednesday, October 23rd, starting at 7 PM, a lecture titled "Emotional Literacy – How to Understand Yourself and Others" will be held at Klara I Rosa (Šandora Petefija 15). The speaker will be Vesela Laloš.
.
Humans are emotional beings. The need to be loved, accepted, and supported continues throughout life and is one of the fundamental conditions for a normal and harmonious existence. Emotions are what give color to our lives, serving as guides and indicators of where and how we move through the world around us. Therefore, understanding them can be considered one of the basic skills that should be a part of the education system.
.
And yet, emotions are not taught in schools, and in many families, they are rarely discussed, even though we witness modern society suffering from depression syndromes, often caused by suppressed or unrecognized emotions. In response to this psychological issue, the theory of emotional literacy emerged, offering the possibility for people to learn about emotions and gain the ability to better understand both their own feelings and the emotions of those around them.
.
This knowledge can help us overcome or avoid many problems and conflicts that arise from emotional confusion, misunderstandings, or the consequences of past traumatic experiences, whose inevitable effects are depression, anxiety, and various psychological blockages.
.
The fact is that almost no one goes through life without some psychological wounds, whether minor or major. A higher level of emotional literacy can help us become aware of these life wounds and discover ways to heal or at least reduce the pain they cause.
.
The goal of the lecture on emotional literacy is to encourage and inspire listeners to seek answers to personal emotional problems by learning about basic emotions such as joy, sadness, love, suffering, feelings of happiness, grief, and sorrow, and how they influence our lives, ultimately teaching us how to "manage" them. In this process, techniques and knowledge from psychologists who have studied emotional literacy theories can assist us.
.
Understanding what is happening within us and having the ability to express it can improve the quality of our lives, as well as the lives of those close to us and the people in our work environment.
