CONCERT– ŠUMSKI (CRO)
On Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 8 PM, we will host one of the most renowned alternative bands in Croatia – Šumski.
Location: Klara i Rosa (Petefi Šandora 15)
.
Founded in Zagreb in 1991, Šumski has been recognized from the very beginning as one of the most unusual groups on the scene. With their performances and inspiration far beyond the popular genre frameworks of that time, Šumski created their own musical landscape, filled with experiments and unexpected arrangements, where kraut rock, world music, psychedelia, new wave, soundtracks for animations, noise, avant-pop, and electronics all find their place. Their "sound without borders" is reminiscent of Can, Faust, Blurt, Captain Beefheart, as well as the films of Jacques Tati and the books of Blaise Cendrars.
.
In addition to playing in Šumski, all members of the band are part of the Zagreb scene in various ways, through playing in other bands (Peach Pit, Cul-de-Sac, Haustor, Jink, Stampedo, Zli bubnjari, Brujači/Buzzers, Uzrujan, Franz Kafka Ensemble). Bassist Kornel also manages the iconic club Močvara and runs the label Kekere Aquarium.
.
Šumski has had a number of interesting collaborations. Ted Milton from the British pogo jazz noir band Blurt played saxophone on their album Ostrvo ledenog kita (Island of the Ice Whale). Their latest release featured guests such as Dan Kinzelman, an American saxophonist living in Italy, and Giuseppe Ianpieri, an Italian metal musician inclined towards classical music, who played the harpsichord. Members of Šumski have performed several times with Damo Suzuki, the vocalist of Can, and the band was involved in the compilation Damo Suzuki – Inside Network.
