About the Common: Freedom and Politics of Belonging
As part of the public discussion series titled "About the common," aimed at education, initiating dialogue, exchanging opinions, listening, and collaborative reflection, we strengthen the sense of community, critically examine, and share experiences, ideas, and practices, initiating discussions on various topics and issues present in our society and city.

The forum will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 7 PM at Klara I Rosa (15 Petefi Šandora Street).
The theme of the third forum within the "About the Common" program is Freedom and Politics of Belonging. Participants will discuss the contradictions of contemporary democratic structures and the complex relationships between national identity and civic and/or global culture, with the support of citizens. Life in multicultural Subotica, as well as in other border areas, raises questions about the contradictions of traditional forms of identity expression in the context of the increasing significance of globalization and cosmopolitan and intercultural worldviews. The shared reflection on the problems of our contemporaneity will be framed by dilemmas surrounding the (in)compatibility of civic spirit and national sentiments, the persistence of political fragmentation, and the enigmatic success we achieve in the realm of social divisions. The forum guests will attempt to shed light on the phenomenon of the almost neurotic status of the contemporary political subject, whose simultaneous longing for freedom and traditional politics of belonging intrigues the local and regional public.

The guests of the forum will include: Marija Mandić, senior research associate at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory in Belgrade; Kšištof Čiževski, theorist, writer, and publisher from Poland; Damir Zejnulahović, research associate at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory in Belgrade. The introductory speech will be given by Branislav Filipović, researcher and lecturer from Subotica.
